If you have owned an affordable Windows laptop, you must have experienced a host of different hardware problems after using it for a few years. The battery and the speakers tend to go dead, there are problems with charging, but it’s all fine until your touchpad stops working. Yes, that’s when your computer needs to be fixed, doesn’t it? Sure, if you are well versed with the various Windows keyboard shortcuts, you can make do but it’s not a solution for everyone. You could also buy a USB mouse and get to work but if you need to do something urgently and your PC’s mouse or touchpad has stopped working, you can control the mouse pointer with the keyboard.

Managing your family and taking care of everyone’s need can get a little hectic. You need to ensure your family is safe, their basic needs are being fulfilled, they are taking care of their chores in time and a healthy relation is maintained among all family members. All of this can be a little overwhelming and sometimes even impossible to do without any help. Thus, if you are having a hard time managing your family, then it might be a good idea to get some help from family management apps.

There are various family apps available that will make sure your family is safe while taking care of their things and staying in sync. To help you manage your family, we are going to list down 7 apps that you can use on your smartphone to manage your family:

1. Cozi Family Organizer

Cozi is an all in one family organizer that keeps your family’s activities in sync and allows them to complete tasks remotely. It has a family calendar that your whole family can fill and sync appointments. You can see schedules of all your family members, assign appointments, add reminders (perfect for family meetings) and create appointments for the whole family. On top of a synced calendar, family members can create To-Do lists for themselves and others as well, and a To-Do reminder ensures everyone remembers to take care of their tasks.

Cozi

Shopping is another big conflict where someone always adds a late item for which you need to go to the grocery store again. With Cozi’s family shopping list, anyone in the family can add items. Plus, one can simply cross the item from the list to tell everyone that the item has been bought.

Cozi’s free version is ad supported, but you can upgrade to premium version ($19.99/year) via an in-app purchase to remove ads and get address book syncing, birthday tracking and the ability to customize app’s look.

Install: Android, iOSWindows Phone, Web

2. OurHome

If To-Do lists offered by Cozi aren’t enough to keep your family motivated and working on the tasks at hand, then OurHome should be able to handle it. OurHome comes with a reward based system where individuals can be rewarded for tasks completed, perfect for motivating children to complete their chores. You can fix points for completing specific tasks, and once enough points are earned, they can be exchange for a reward. The reward is set by you and it could be anything that interests your family, it could be money, a trip or just a visit to the near ice cream shop. Although the app works best for motivating children, I am sure it will work fine with adults as well (if you play your cards right).

OurHome

This little bribery feature is complimented by the ability to “Like” and comment on the activity or even send a personal message. Furthermore, it also comes with a shared shopping list feature that lets anyone add items to the shopping list and check the ones that are already bought.

How to Edit or Remove EXIF Data From Photos

$

0

There’s no doubt in the fact that we capture a lot of photos. Be it from a dedicated camera or a smartphone. However, not all us are aware that the photos we take pack in a lot of our personal data. Every photo we capture features information around the camera unit (camera maker, model, F-stop, exposure time, ISO speed, aperture, flash etc.), resolution of the photo, date of capture, flash data, location & GPS info etc. Well, the data stored in the photos is called EXIF data (Exchangeable Image File Format) or metadata of photos. While EXIF data can be useful to sort or filter images, it also means that if you post a photo online, a lot of your personal data is public along with it. While various websites like Facebook, Twitter, image hosting services like Imgur remove EXIF data when you upload, there are some services like Flickr, Dropbox, Google+ and more that keep the EXIF data intact.

So, if you don’t want people to know the location you took a picture at or get any EXIF data, you should consider editing or removing EXIF data from your photos. Well, that’s what we are to help you with. Here’s how you can edit or remove EXIF data from photos on different platforms:

Windows

Windows includes a native method to edit and remove EXIF data from photos. You can do so by simply right clicking on a picture and going to “Properties“. Here, go to the “Details” tab and you will find the EXIF data. You can either edit some details or remove the data by clicking on “Remove Properties and Personal Information“.

Windows edit EXIF data

Windows remove EXIF data

While it works, you cannot edit nor remove all the details. Thus, we’ll recommend you to use a third party software to do the same.

You can easily remove EXIF data of photos with BatchPurifier. After you have installed BatchPurifier, you can just open the software, add the photos, select the file type, choose if you want to save the EXIF data ridden photo as a new one or if you want to override the original photo and that’s it, your photos will be “purified”. In other words, EXIF data will be removed from the photos. You can add multiple files at once, thus the name BatchPurifier. We have tested the app and it works great if you just want to remove EXIF data from photos. However, BatchPurifier only works for JPEG files.

BatchPurifier EXIF remove

There are a plethora of other Windows software that claim to remove EXIF data or edit them but we tried most of them and they failed to work for us. So, you will have to rely on either the native Windows way or just removed JPEG files via BatchPurifier.

Mac

While you can easily view EXIF data on your Mac, you will have to rely on a third party app to remove EXIF data. To view EXIF data of a photo, you can just open the photo in the Photos app and hit the info icon. You will then see the EXIF data including details around the camera and the location of the image.

Mac view exif data of photos

To remove EXIF data from the photos, you can use the third party software dubbed ImageOptim. The app is easy to use and all you need to do is drag & drop image files into the app and it will automatically remove the EXIF data and save the photo replacing the original photo, so you don’t have any problems with duplicate photos.

ImageOptim app Mac

Mac removed EXIF data

While ImageOptim removes EXIF data, it does not let you edit it. We also tried a number of other apps that claim to edit EXIF data on Mac but sadly, none of them really worked for us.

Android

If you don’t want your GPS info to be saved when you take a photo on Android, you can disable the geotagging feature. You can go to Settings in most of the camera apps that come pre-installed on Android smartphones and turn off “Save location”.

Or better yet, you can go to Settings->Apps->Camera->Permissions and disable “Location”.

Stop geotag on photos Android

In case you do want to save EXIF data but want to remove or edit it before you share, you can use the Photo Exif Editor app (Free, Pro $2.99). After you have installed the app, you can just select a photo and edit its metadata with ease. While the app is supposed to remove EXIF data too, it was a hit and miss in our testing. The app is available in a free version but if you want to get rid of the ads and see full RAW data, you can get the Pro version.

Photo EXIF Editor app Android

If you just want to remove EXIF data from photos on Android, you can use the EZ UnEXIF app (Free, Pro $0.99). You can just install the app, open it, add photos from Gallery or the file browser and select if you want to create a new EXIF free copy of the photo or replace the original and that’s it. The EXIF data will be removed from the picture. Easy, right? The app is available in a free version but it’s laden with ads, although they aren’t the full-page intrusive ones. If you do want to get rid of the ads, you should get the Pro version.

EZ UnEXIF app

iOS

Like Android, you can prevent the camera app on your iPhone or iPad from taking up geotags. To do that, just go to iOS Settings->Privacy->Location Services, tap on “Camera” and select “Never“.

iOS disable geotagging

If you want to keep the EXIF data and only want to remove it when you share a photo, you can use the Metadata Remover app (free with in-app purchase for full version). The app lets you easily remove EXIF data. You can just tap on the settings cog icon, hit the “Remove Metadata” button and the app will save a duplicate photo without any EXIF data.

Metadata Remover app iOS

If you want to edit the EXIF data of photos on your iPhone or iPad, you can either get the full version of the Metadata Remover app via an in-app purchase or purchase the full version of the Metapho app ($2.99). The Metapho app lets you remove metadata or edit all the details including the date and location.

Bonus:

If you don’t want to use a third party app to remove EXIF data on any of the platforms, the best way is to take a screenshot of the image. Since screenshots don’t have any EXIF data, you will have a picture without any metadata. You can even edit images in different photo editing apps to remove EXIF data. Simple yet effective, right?

Post your photos online without any of your personal details attached

So, those are the ways to edit or remove EXIF data from photos on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. We do agree that most of these platforms lack any comprehensive apps to edit or remove metadata but we have tried them all and brought you the ones that work. So, try them out and let us know your experience. Sound off in the comments section below.

Top 7 Adobe Premiere Pro Alternatives for Windows and Mac

$

Adobe Premiere Pro is an industry standard video editing software offering everything needed for video/movie editing. It has even been used in many super hit movies, including Dust to Glory, Superman Returns, Avatar, Deadpool and more. However, it may not be a cup of tea for everyone due to many reasons. Many people cannot afford the $19.99/month subscription, and the industry level editing tools may not be required by many video editors.

Getting the best tool in the market makes sense, but only for people who can afford it and are actually going to use the advanced features. For example, why would anyone need multi-camera editing support for editing a short film made for a college project? There are many video editing software like Adobe Premier Pro that are much cheaper (even free) and offer amazing video editing features. In this article, we are listing down the top 7 Adobe Premiere Pro alternatives that should offer everything you will need to edit videos:

1. Blender

Blender might well be the best free alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro, considering it offers some amazing video editing features. It is a professional open-source video editing software that will let you edit videos, create animations, create games, add simulations and all of this with amazing processing speed. Its Cycles rendering engine enables it to offer realistic rendering, including both GPU & CPU rendering along with HDR lighting support.

Blender

Some of Blender’s notable features include realistic rendering, Node support, OSL support, smooth rigging with automatic skinning, automatic pose and walk editor, multi-res sculpting support. You can also add simulations like smoke/fluid/hair, code game logic, open multiple slots for video editing, transitions, filter, plus it supports OpenGL and brings a lot more features. On top of these amazing features, it has hundreds of extensions to add more features, such as 3D Navigation, Boolean Operators, Camera Switcher and more.

Download (Free)
Platforms: Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista; (Mac OS X 10.6 and above) and Linux (Suits most recent GNU/Linux distributions)

2. Lightworks

Lightworks is a light video editing software that is small and very light on resources when compared to many professional video editing software. However, this doesn’t mean it lacks any important features. In fact, Lightworks has the most extensive support for both export and import formats, even more than Adobe Premiere Pro. Also, it brings speedy rendering speed while offering smooth processing without stutters.

Lightwork

Its features include multi-camera editing support, real-time editing, GPU rendering, Boris FX, 2D & 3D tile animations, hundreds of presets and filters, real-time collaboration tools, extremely customizable interface and much more. Lightworks has both free and paid versions, with the free version offering most of the features with limited import support. You will have to go for the Pro version if you are looking to use some advanced features like hardware I/O support, collaboration tools, real-time rendering, Boris Graffiti and FX and complete format support.

Download (Free version and Premium version costing $437.99 or $174.99/year)
Platforms: Windows, macOS and Linux

3. Sony Vegas Pro

Sony Vegas Pro goes head-to-head with Adobe Premiere when it comes to features. It comes with 4K video editing support that can be done in 2D or 3D via simple drag-and-drop functionality. Similar to Lightworks, its interface is quite customizable and gives you full control over how you would like to edit and chances are, you may prefer its interface over Adobe Premiere Pro. Thanks to OpenFX base, it works flawlessly with almost all types of video effects. Additionally, Sony Vegas Pro imports the project file and automatically converts it to its native format, allowing you to save time and storage.

Sony-Vegas-Pro

Similar to other video editing software, it also comes with powerful and some unique features. Its features include GPU acceleration, multi-camera editing, separate edit windows, masking tools, color matching, plugin support, 3D preview, stereoscopic 3D adjustments, auto-correct alignments, Dolby Digital surround sound, Multi-administrator support, native XAVC Support, Blu-ray authoring support and more. Overall, Sony Vegas Pro is a great Adobe Premiere Pro alternative that offers similar powerful features in an arguably better interface.

Download: (Free 30-day trial with the paid version costing $599.95)
Platforms: Windows

4. Apple Final Cut Pro X

Another head-to-head competitor to Adobe Premiere Pro that offers the same editing features but at a cheaper price. If you are a Mac user, then you should definitely give Final Cut Pro a shot (it has a free-trial). It has one of the best interfaces, that is simple, interactive and professional. It uses a magnetic timeline that is very different from Adobe Premiere Pro and other video editors. Instead of separating all the clips, it adds secondary clips behind the main track for individual editing. If you have used any of the other video editing software, magnetic timeline will be the first unique thing you will notice.

Apply-Final-Cut-X-Pro

Apart from the unique magnetic timeline, Final Cut Pro X also packs in many other advanced editing features including; group clips, individually manage clips & see effects, multi-camera support with up to 64 angles, automatically read metadata and manage projects, assign keywords, GPU support, effects and transitions, edit audio in timeline, adjust colors, 4K support and much more. Apple Final Cut Pro X is the best for you if you are looking for something different than Adobe’s offering and you are a Mac user.

Download: (Free Trial with the full version available for $299.99)
Platforms: macOS

5. OpenShot

OpenShot is another great open-source software that is powerful while being easy to use. It may not be as feature rich as Blender or Adobe Premiere Pro, but its complete focus is on editing a video, which makes it a really good option if you are not into creating games or animation. If you look at OpenShot simply as a video editor, then you will see how powerful yet simple the software is. When it comes to solely editing a video, its features bypass many of the professional video editors.

OpenShot

It’s video editing features include unlimited layers, real-time video transitions, title templates, animated titles, Rotoscoping, frame stepping, time-mapping, audio mixing, dozens of video effects, support for HDV and AVCHD and many filters & presets to make your videos awesome. Also, it uses FFmpeg for video encoding and video, audio and image format support. In my experience, OpenShot, which is still in beta, is much easier to use as compared to other tools here (perfect for novice) and does its job of “video editing” perfectly. Having said that, it may not be the best option at industry level editing unlike Adobe Premiere Pro.

Download: (Free)
Platforms: Windows, macOS and Linux

6. VideoPad

A great free software by the renowned NCH Software company that focus on video editing. VideoPad does not offer many advanced options that Adobe Premiere Pro or any other professional software offers, but its simple interface and big list of editing features make it perfect for any novice user looking to edit and make movies. It is similar to OpenShot, but it lacks few advanced features. Although, I found it much easier to work on projects in VideoPad due to its better format support and simple interface.

VideoPad

It comes with hundreds of filters, transitions, audio effects, video effects, so that you can edit the videos to your liking. Some of its other features include 4K support, easy multi-project handling, text-to-speech support, custom audio recording, multiple export options, real-time preview and batch video editing. If you are looking for simple yet powerful Adobe Premier Pro alternative, VideoPad is a good option.

Download: (Free for personal use and a commercial license can be purchased for $69.95)
Platforms: Windows

7. Windows Movie Maker

Since we are talking about video editors, how can we miss out on Windows Movie Maker. It’s most probably already installed in your Windows PC and while it is not as good as any professional video editors, it can be an Adobe Premier Pro alternative for home users who just want to make some quick edits and make their videos beautiful.

Windows-Live-Movie-Maker

It has reliable support for import and export formats and you can easily split, duplicate and reposition clips. You will also find many filters and transitions that you can add to your video, plus its simple & interactive interface makes things just that good. However in the end, Windows Movie Maker is just a simple video editor that can quickly make common changes to videos. Mac users might like to checkout Apple iMovie, which is actually much better than Windows Movie Maker and offers many advanced tools for video editing.

Edit Your Videos Like A Pro Even Without Adobe Premier Pro

Now that you know these Adobe Premier Pro alternatives, you can edit your video like a pro even when you don’t have Adobe’s software. If you are a professional video editor and looking for a free Adobe Premiere Pro alternative, then Blender is your best bet. However, I will recommend novice users to try out OpenShot or VideoPad if they are looking for a good video editor. Sometimes the most powerful option isn’t the best option for your need, so choose your video editing software carefully.

These apps make it easy to manage files, install and uninstall apps and even backup and restore your phone in the time of crisis. There are quite a few Android desktop managers available that you can use, but as always, we have compiled a list of some of the top ones that you can explore and choose from. So, let’s get going:

1. MoboRobo

MoboRobo is a freeware desktop manager available for Windows using which you can manage your Android device. If the drivers of your device are not installed, the app will take care of it and detect your device. The user-interface is one of the best, considering it’s a freeware and you can manage contacts, messages, apps and files right from your desktop. In the homepage, the device screen will be mirrored in real-time and you can take screenshots with a single click. Cool, right?

The software also includes a file and app manager, which help you to manage everything right from the desktop. You can even create a complete backup of your device which can be restored to any other Android smartphone without any issues. The app also supports Wi-Fi connectivity i.e. if you find cable connections annoying.

2. MoboGenie

MoboGenie is yet another free Android desktop manager which lets you download apps, manage files and keep your phone up to date. The manager automatically scans your phone and deletes junk files and resources. Getting new content directly from the computer to your device is the primary focus of this desktop manager. MoboGenie supports managing your device over WiFi and it’s obviously easier than using the data cable.

mobogenie

MoboGenie also lets you manage contacts, messages, apps and almost anything in the device. Like MoboRobo, you can create a complete backup of the device and restore it to any Android device at a later date with MoboGenie.

Download (Windows)

3. MyPhoneExplorer

The previous two apps are great when it comes to free desktop managers, but at the same time, they also include app recommendations which can get annoying. Well, if you want a better solution, you can use MyPhoneExplorer, which is one of the oldest desktop managers I have known for Android. MyPhoneExplorer offers the basic features for free and that too without any ads or limitations. The interface is very basic and you can manage almost anything from the device except the apps. The software also supports complete backup and restore in the easiest way possible.

my phone explorer

The application also syncs contacts and calendar to Outlook, which can be helpful if you have a corporate phone and need to keep the phone in sync with the PC all the time. The only downside of MyPhoneExplorer is that it’s very basic with a 5-year-old outdated UI. But if you can work with that, I would really recommend it as a free alternative to the above two.

4. AirDroid

Let’s now take a look at the top paid Android desktop managers, starting with AirDroid. AirDroid started as a free file transfer app between PC and Android over WiFi but has come to a great distance from where it started to become a full-fledged wireless desktop manager for Android. You will have to create an online account before you can work on AirDroid. Once you have created an account and installed AirDroid on your phone as well, you can control the messages, get notifications, share files, manage apps, calls, contacts and almost everything from the software or the web client.

The free version of the app is limited when it comes to file size of the transfers and daily transfer quota. The paid version removes all the restriction for just $1.99 per month. Also, you can manage your Android device wirelessly, as it supports WiFi connections.

The best part about the app is that it works on all the platforms because it is available as a web client and Chrome extension. However, if you want a full-fledged solution, you should download the full-blown software for Windows and macOS.
